Being Mrs. Muirhead....

Angela Muirhead is a teacher at Coldspring Intermediate.  She makes the decision every week to create lessons that will help students be successful in school and beyond.  Here's an example of a book trailer created by her students.  Visit her blog at http://muirheadbooktrailers.blogspot.com/ for more trailers to inspire you!

Using QR Codes in Read Aloud Books for Kindergarten

Students in 3rd-5th grade worked with Ms. Capers last week created QR codes to make audio versions of books in Ms. Britt's Kindergarten class.  They recorded their voice as they read the pages, converted that audio link to a QR code, then pasted each into a shared Google Doc. Here are some pictures of them at work!

Mrs. Bailes' Class Uses PowToon to Sequence Events in a Story!

Check out the first try using PowToon for Mrs. Bailes' Class!
They read the story "Pete the Cat and the New Guy." Then they used Powtoon to retell the story, sequencing events from the story in the  correct order.

Here's an example of how a video can be uploaded

This video was created using an iPad app named Telligami.

The Payoff for Being Flexible

Last week the district hosted the first ever kid's Tech Camp-named DigiC@mp!  Aimie Patrick (4th grade teacher) and I hosted 14 students who were entering 5th, 6th, and 7th grade 4 days, 7:30-12:30, including breakfast and lunch.  I was so excited for us to make this happen for the students because I wanted students to have the opportunity to develop confidence and just plain have fun learning, using tools that they will be using next year and into their future.

It was a great feeling on Friday during the presentations seeing those kids showing off their websites.  What a satisfying feeling to see those students so excited to show "their stuff." This is what matters...
As in real life, sometimes techie problems are out of your hands.  The Weebly folks are working on a password protect problem, so we solved the problem by presenting from the editing side, instead of the "real" side.

Of course, we couldn't have camp without t-shirts, which presented a few funny stories about how to get that done- not having a vendor from "the binder", needing a budget code, oops! too late to order from the place in Huntsville, buying t-shirts at Target AND Wal-Mart (one had shirts in kid sizes, the other had adult sizes, and then watching the Target receipt fly out of the car as I'm driving home... yes, this is all true! Thanks to the support of Aimie's aunt, we were able to get them screenprinted! All students got shirts!

So "go with the flow" and the payoff will be great! We are excited about expanding the opportunities next year!
